FRONT-END DEVELOPER · REMOTE U.S.

Front-end developer. Built carefully, for real people.

I'm Rich. I build accessible, well-made web tools, and I care how they feel to use. 9+ years on public-facing tools with Vue.js and ArcGIS, after a career of working closely with clients and teams.

01 — WHAT I CARE ABOUT

Four things I try to bring to every project.

Passion

Building websites since 2007. Nearly two decades in, I still enjoy the work.

Quality

Jest unit tests, coverage tracking and a Git CI/CD pipeline behind the tools I ship.

Collaboration

Years in client, account and QA roles taught me to listen first and explain technical choices in plain language.

Care

WCAG accessibility, responsive design and performance, so the tools work for everyone.

02 — SELECTED WORK

Case studies: the problem, my role, and what changed.

CASE 01 · GIS + REAL-TIME APIS

Seven maps on ArcGIS 4.x

As the only developer, I moved seven public map tools to ArcGIS 4.x, despite breaking changes, after completing six Esri courses.

Result: faster map drawing, a clearer basemap and ArcGIS data loaded only when needed.

CASE 02 · MODERNIZATION

jQuery to Vue, Bootstrap 4 to 5.3

Redeveloped each trip tool as a stand-alone Vue app initially, smallest to largest. Later, integrated into larger Vue app with shared components and a build that runs on both the legacy and new CMS.

Result: a maintainable, reactive stack with shared components and bugs fixed along the way.

CASE 03 · MIGRATION

Mojo Portal to Umbraco

Technical lead on moving a public website from a legacy CMS to Umbraco. Styles, assets, and trip tools load via CDN for use in other supporting applications (ie. microsites, fare payments app).

Result: Live since August 3, 2026, with multiple themes for the site's microsites.

04 — MY JOURNEY

From client support to front-end lead, and what each step taught me.

  1. 2017 – PRESENT · NOW

    Front-End Developer, Metro Transit

Vue, ArcGIS and accessibility work on tools the public uses every day, plus technical lead on the CMS migration.

  2. 2012 – 2017

UI and front-end roles: BI Worldwide, Outsell, US Bank, Best Buy

Responsive HTML email, wireframes, style guides and agile teams. This is where I learned to turn designs into dependable code.

  3. 2007 – PRESENT

    Freelance full-stack web development

Custom sites for small businesses, plus hosting, DNS and direct client support. Running a whole site myself keeps me honest about the details.

  4. 2001 – 2008

    Implementation, account management and QA

Harland Financial Solutions and Digital River. I learned to listen to clients, test like a skeptic and keep projects moving.

05 — HOW I WORK

What it's like to have me on your team.

I break big jobs into small steps.

I split large projects into small, manageable tasks. Each piece is easier to build, test and review, and the work keeps moving.

I sweat the details, and know when to stop.

Given the time, my attention to detail is top-notch. I strive for perfection, and I know when it's ready to ship. If time is tight I'll polish what matters most and let the rest be good enough.

I automate the boring checks.

Tests and pipelines catch regressions so reviews can focus on the real questions.

I design for everyone first.

Keyboard, screen reader and small-screen use are requirements, not extras.
